Childcare Funding Minehead

Funding for 2 Year-Olds

Depending on your personal circumstances, your child may be entitled to 2 year-old funding. If your child is eligible, this funding can be used in the same way as the 3 year-old Nursery Education Funding with 15 hours a week free nursery education for 38 weeks of the year.

For more information on funding for 2 year-olds, please have a look at the https://www.somerset.gov.uk/education-and-families/paying-for-childcare/funding-for-2-year-olds/ to find out if you are eligible. If so you can apply online here: or call 0845 345 9122 for an application form.

Funding for 3 and 4 Year Olds

ALL 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours a week free childcare. Cheeky Cherubs Nursery is registered with the local education authority and receives funding for education for every 3 and 4 year old. Nursery Education Funding will fund a maximum number of hours for each funding period.

Each child is eligible for a maximum of 15 hours a week for 38 weeks of the year. This can be stretched out to 11 hours over 51 weeks of the year if desired. No more than 7 hours can be claimed in any one day. If you want to use more, we will deduct the number of hours each child is allowed from their monthly bill.

Some pre-schools and nurseries have limited opening hours. If your child already attends a preschool and you are not using the full 15 hours per week then Cheeky Cherubs can use the remaining hours at times suitable to you. We are open 51 weeks of the year so you can have free hours all through the year.

You do not need to apply for the 15 hours of 3-4 year old funding, we will claim on your behalf and the money is sent straight to us. You can find more info about Early Years provision in Somerset here: www.somerset.gov.uk/childrens-services/early-years-for-families/early-years-entitlement-information-for-families.

A lot of parents don’t realise that their children can attend two establishments with their nursery education funding and a lot of children are missing out on extra hours of learning through play.

Early Years Pupil Premium

The Early Years Pupil Premium ( https://www.somerset.gov.uk/education-and-families/early-years-pupil-premium-information-for-parents/ )link – provides an extra amount of money to the nursery or pre-school for three and four year old children whose parents are in receipt of certain qualifying benefits or who have been adopted or are in care. The nursery will use this funding in order to provide additional opportunities for your children.

30 Hours funding

Working families are entitled to an additional 15 hours free childcare so 30 hours in all. You can check you eligibility and apply for this online now on the government’s Childcare Choices website: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. There is also some info about it here: www.somerset.gov.uk/childrens-services/early-years-for-families/30-hours-of-funded-childcare/.

Example of how you can combine childcare funding in two settings

Your child attends preschool on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon 12.30 – 3.30 – the total number of hours used is 9 – you still have 6 hours a week that you could use at Cheeky Cherubs. We feed into all local schools so your child will meet new friends.

If you would prefer to talk to someone about your options, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to answer any questions.
